Key Ring

If you live where I live
You carry a lot of keys.
Each key specially crafted
To open a door
To something you feel
Is best left behind a lock.

I flip through my key ring once in a while
And think of everything over which I stand guard.
This key is for the house
This key is for the car
This one for the mailbox
This one for a padlock.
I don't remember where the hell this key goes
This other key is looking rather old.
This key is broken
And this one is twisted
This one is rusted
And I think one is missing.

You probably have your set of keys
One for you heart
One for your dreams.
One for your future
And one for your past.
One for your lover
One for your friends.
One for your birth
And one for your end.

But perhaps the most important one
The one that opens part of you
You thought could never exist
But always wished would.
